Delaney’s Road on the NW side of Lake Colac can be good for farmland birds such as Larks, Raptors and Quail, but when it’s wet, there are also numerous waterbirds in the paddocks. It’s always worth a look at any time of year. With numerous bird species and photo opportunities.
Glossy Ibis – this shot shows some of the 12 that hung around for a few days.
Yellow-billed Spoonbill – I seldom get up close enough to get a detailed shot of these guys. So, when the opportunity pops up I get a bit excited and panic and the shot doesn’t seem to turn out well, haha

Common Greenshank – not so common at Lake Colac. But every now and then you’ll find 1 or 2 on the lake at the end of Delaney’s road.
Eurasian Skylark – I feel like I’m always sneaking up on these guys to get that perfect shot. The only problem is, they know I’m sneaking after them and they’re always 2 steps ahead. This guy let me take a back shot, haha.
Singing Bushlark – I’m not sure why I have a real affection for these guys. I’m always happy to see one.

Australian Reed Warbler – trying out its best diversion technique on me, haha. I think it worked because I could not see any nest or chicks nearby.

Striated Fieldwren – A real character this one and loves it in the Hawthorn bushes. Always good to hear their beautiful song

Black-fronted Dotterel – I was lucky enough to find one of these little chaps just off the end of Delaney’s road a few years back. Not rare, just a little tricky to get near to a shot of.

Brown Songlark – one of my favourite birds and I was lucky enough to get this shot on my birthday! I was pretty excited at the time and still happy with the shot.
